At first glance, it is a patch of plants doing a perfectly good impression of an empty patch of plants.
Then the blue chest gives the resident away.
In our short video, the leaves get the opening shot. The bird gets the reveal. It is a tiny story, but a surprisingly good one to watch with someone who has not spotted the subject yet.
The hiding place does most of the work
Long leaves cross the frame in several directions. The bird sits among them, with just enough color and shape showing to change what you think you are looking at.
Once you have found it, the scene becomes obvious. Before that, the plants are winning.
We called the Reel “Found the tenant.” There is no evidence of a lease, but the privacy arrangement looks quite good.
A small spotting game
Watch the opening without giving the answer away. If you are sharing it with the kids, pause and let them point to where they think the bird is. Then play the reveal.
That is the whole activity. No special supplies, no score, and no need to turn it into a lesson with homework.
Sometimes the pleasure is simply finding the thing that was there all along. A few short pieces of real footage gave us the setup and the answer.
The bird stayed well hidden. The blue chest was a minor security oversight.
