We found the sunset. So did everyone with wings, apparently.
The shoreline in our clip is already occupied. Birds make their own arrangements along the beach, and a few other residents have chosen a much more horizontal way to attend. The sky has a good supporting cast.
Look below the obvious attraction
Sunset usually gets the opening glance. Let your eye move down to the beach afterward. The shapes along the water turn a familiar evening view into a scene with individual characters.
Some are upright. Some are resting. None seems particularly concerned with improving the composition for the camera. That lack of cooperation is a large part of the charm.
A crowded view can be a good view
We are used to treating anything in front of a landscape as an obstruction. Here, the animals are the reason the shot has a story. Leave them in and the sunset belongs to a place where other things are happening.
The “bird committee” is our nickname for the gathering. We have no evidence that a meeting was called or that attendance was compulsory. From the general arrangement, though, the location had clearly been selected before we got there.
The view was excellent. Several members of the audience had already reclined.
